Our Story

The Foley and Smith families have been involved in Adirondack hydroelectric power projects since the 1970s. As owner-operators, we’ve worked to contribute to strong communities and healthy ecosystems, while producing distributed renewable power for the Niagara-Mohawk electric grid.

Like any business, we have to keep up with the times. Changes in the electricity market have given us the challenge and the opportunity to provide power directly to local consumers. NP&L was founded in 2018 for that purpose, by brothers Ethan and Emmett Smith, and Louise Gava.

Today, our vision for a trusted, “buy-local" renewable energy option is growing. We’re partnering with old friends in hydro and new friends in community solar and wind to provide customers across the North Country with renewable energy right from the source.

Come join our movement, and know where your power comes from!
