Renewable energy you can believe in

Northern Power & Light does not buy and sell electricity supply in the way that most companies who promise low prices or renewable power do. Instead, our platform enables customers to sign up directly with a local renewable resource and subscribe to a portion of the electricity it produces.

Northern Power & Light does not buy and sell electricity supply in the way that most companies who promise low prices or renewable power do. Instead, our platform enables customers to sign up directly with a local renewable resource and subscribe to a portion of the electricity it produces.

How it Works

There are no new wires or connections, your energy expenditure will remain the same, and billing is transparent. That’s because Northern Power & Light works with the utility using a system of bill crediting. Energy generated on your behalf by your local renewable producer is credited to your utility bill; you pay the producer directly instead.

Billing

As a Northern Power & Light Customer, you will receive two bills, one from your utility and one from Northern Power & Light. Your total energy expenditure will remain the same. Here’s how it works:

Traditional Utility Bill

Bill through Northern Power & Light

Your bill through Northern Power & Light will always equal the amount credited to your regular utility bill

We size each account so that 80%-100% of your utility bill is offset by local, renewable production

We offer secure automatic billing for added convenience

Support local businesses and the local economy

Support the environment and renewable energy resources

Same price, same reliable service

Meet local producers of renewable electricity

NP&L was created to connect North Country residents with local renewable electricity producers. This means sharing their stories, as well as energy.

About Community Distributed Generation (CDG)

New York’s new Community Distributed Generation (CDG) program enables us to connect you with local renewable electricity. Part of a broader initiative to source most of the State's power from renewable sources by 2030, the CDG program is designed to foster a direct relationship between smaller renewable energy facilities and the communities they serve. It is the same framework that supports Community Solar projects.
